Five-star Arkansas basketball target sets commitment date
John Calipari and Arkansas basketball could be less than a week away from landing their first commitment in the 2025 recruiting class. Darius Acuff Jr., a consensus five-star prospect and priority target for the Razorbacks, will announce his college decision on Friday, July 26th at 4 p.m. (CDT). He's down to just three schools: Arkansas, Kansas and Michigan.

The 2023 Weston High School graduate, who now plays for South Arkansas Community College in Eldorado, AR, earned second team Academic All-American status after compiling a 3.90 grade point average during her freshman year.

Outgoing Southern Arkansas senior golfer Connor Harrington has been named to the College Sports Communicators Men's At-Large Academic All-American Third Team. Harrington adds to his already stocked up resume from 2023-24 as the Magnolia native has been named a GAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete, the Murphy USA Male Scholar Athlete of the Year award recipient (Seventh Annual Mulespys), and now an Academic All-American.

Humane Society hosts pet adoption event at Petco
The Humane Society of North Central Arkansas and the national nonprofit Petco Love will host the Adopt a Petco event at Petco in Mountain Home Saturday morning from 10 to 2. The event will include pets available for adoption. Carolyn Carter, shelter manager at the Humane Society, says “The Humane Society of North Central Arkansas is committed to finding loving homes for the pets in our care. Come out and find your new best friend. When you adopt a new best friend, they come current on vaccinations, treated for parasites, spayed and neutered and receive blood work for various diseases. Adopting a shelter pet saves two lives, the one you are adopting and the next waiting to come to the shelter.”
