A Huntington artist is one of three finalists in a  Long Island competition to design a logo marking the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.

Deborah Porretto, a graphic artist and painter who, with her wife, Lisa Karrer, operated the nonprofit Brett’s Bicycle Recycle for about four years, said she researched the Revolution to design the logo and ensure fidelity to principles. “I was looking at older flags, saw there were a cerain amount of stars, that the colors were right.” She said her logo encompassed all key aspects of the Revolution.

The public is encouraged to post their choice in the comments on that page.  The results of the online vote will be announced on July 4. The winning logo will be used throughout Discover Long Island’s campaign, “Long Island 250” to promote tourism and emphasize the Island’s role in the nation’s founding. The 250th anniversary is in 2026.
