The New Energy Education center has expanded from Syosset into Huntington, opening at 391 W Jericho Turnpike.

When you enter the new center, which offers a wide range of academic programs  as well as martial arts, you are greeted by a wall of trophies from Lego Robotics and Tai Chi championships.

The coaches and teachers’  aim is to provide a fully catered program for students to excel. Starting with their Monday through Friday after-school program, first through fifth graders pick from an array of classes they want to explore, from chess to robotics to Chinese. Older students can refine their skills in robotics, take subject specific AP and regency exam tutoring and get college admission help.

The center works in collaboration with Sitan Tai-Chi and Martial Arts to provide an extensive physical and health education. Students that participate in the after school program can take courses in Wushu and other martial arts from award winning instructors. Their offerings also extend to competitive and adult classes, ensuring that no matter the age, anyone can find a way to participate.

The coaches and teachers boast an extensive and impressive set of resumes. Sitan Chen and Lynn X Lin, co-founders of Sitan Tai-Chi and The New Education Center, were both coaches and tai-chi competitors in China. Sitan Chen holds 32 gold medals in national and international tai-chi competitions while Lynn X Lin was awarded the title of China’s Best College Trainer three times. Their robotics and English teachers include published authors, university professors and computer science researchers

“We want to use our knowledge and skills to serve our community.”  Lynn  said.

Since the founding of Sitan Tai-Chi in 2012 and The New Energy Education in 2015, Lynn X Lin and Sitan Chen have worked to enrich the Huntington and greater Long Island community outside of their course offerings. They have plans to perform a Lunar New Year celebration at the Huntington and Syosset Public Libraries and are working with Northwell Hospital to provide adult tai chi and qigong classes to recovering patients.

This spirit of community centered projects is carried over in the robotics team as they design and compete in an array of competitions each year. Most recently students created a virtual reality  version of MoMA with the aim of creating a more accessible way for learning about famous works of art. Visitors to this digital gallery can learn how pieces of art were created and earn digital merch for their avatars after completing short quizzes.

The center’s mission rings clear in their work: it takes “ten years to grow a tree, [and] a hundred years to cultivate a person.”

Their model of education is holistic, ]centers exploration and encourages growth amongst their students long after they graduate.

Their first center is in Syosset.
