    Board Approves Formation of Committees, Appointments

    The Huntington Town Board has approved the establishment of the Huntington America250 anniversary committee to prepare for celebrations of the semiquincentennial of the country’s Declaration of Independence in 1776.

    Appointed to committee were the town historian, town clerk’s archivist, director of cultural affairs and one representative each of these heritage organizations:

    • Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum
    • Daughters of the American Revolution
    • Greenlawn-Centerport Historical Association
    • Heckscher Museum of Art
    • Huntington African American Museum
    • Huntington Historical Society
    • Huntington Lighthouse Preservation Society
    • Lefferts Tide Mill & Preserve
    • Lloyd Harbor Historical Society
    • Matinecock Tribal Nation
    • Northport Historical Society
    • Order of the Ancient and Honorable Huntington Militia
    • Preservation Long Island
    • Sons of the American Revolution, Long Island Chapter
    • Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium
    • Walt Whitman Birthplace Association

    The committee is tasked with planning events, lectures, presentations, tours workshops and other activities.

    The 250th anniversary is also known as the Bisesquincentennial.

    It also voted to approve the formation of a committee on children with special needs. Each member of the Town Board will appoint two members to the committee.

    The board also made the following appointments to town committees:

    James McGoldrick, Huntington Housing Authority, for a term expiring June 22, 2029.

    Dr. William Earl Thomas, to the African American Task Force, for a term expiring Dec. 31, 2027.

    Walter Edwards, deputy parks commissioner, and Nicole Ercolani, to the new LGBTQ+ committee, for terms ending Dec. 31, 2027.

    Victoria Mayes, to the Anti-Bias Task Force, for a term expiring Dec. 31, 2027.

    Victoria Mayes, to the Asian American Task Force, for a term ending Dec.31, 2027.

    Harrison Young to the Energy Efficiency, Renewables and Sustainability committee for a term ending Dec. 31, 2025.

    Tom Bourne to the Plumbing Advisory Board for a term expiring Dec. 31, 2027.
