Vermilion City Council has appointed local author and retired Vermilion Local Schools teacher Joette McDonald as the city’s first poet laureate. In a July 8 Council meeting, Vermilion Mayor Jim Forthofer put forth McDonald’s name to serve as Vermilion and the surrounding area’s poet laureate, highlighting reasons why she was deserving of the position, according to a news release from Jim Chapple, Ph.D.

Medina police identify suspect fatally shot by county sheriff while carrying 'replica gun'
MEDINA, Ohio — Medina police officials provided more insight into Wednesday evening's fatal shooting of an armed suspect outside of the Medina County Sheriff's Office. During a briefing on Thursday, it was announced that Medina County Sheriff Terry Grice was the one who shot the suspect, now identified as 37-year-old Victoria Carter of Lafayette Township.
