MASON/CABELL COUNTIES, WV (WOWK) – Construction continues on Nucor Steel’s new plant in Mason County.

In Huntington on Monday, the Rotary Club of Huntington met with speakers from Nucor to hear updates on the new, state-of-the-art sheet steel mill. Michelle Goodman with the Huntington Rotary Club says the construction is also providing opportunities for the community.

“So Rotary Club really likes to keep our members informed of what’s going on in the community. and that’s one of the biggest things that’s happening right now, is this giant industry’s moving in and providing opportunities for a lot of people in the area. So, we want to just get an update on what’s going on with that project,” said Goodman.

It will be at least 18 months before the building is complete, however, hiring is going on now. According to Nucor, the new sheet steel mill will have the capacity to produce 3,000,000 tons of steel annually.
