CHAPMANVILLE- The Central Greenbrier all-stars advanced all the way to the final six teams in the 2024 Little League State Tournament, but unfortunately, the all-stars from Huntington proved to be the biggest thorn in their side as CG lost 14-3 on Monday, July 22, their second loss to Huntington in the tourney.

Everything looked okay in the opening inning for both teams.

Huntington jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, but in the bottom half, Central Greenbrier answered them evenly. Starting pitcher Peyton Ervin singled then two batters later and with two outs, Michael Boothe walked. Then, Acen Workman hit a double to the right center field fence that brought Ervin and Boothe home and the game was knotted at 2-all after one.

But Huntington put up five runs in the second as Ervin was struggling to get strikes called on the corner of the plate though they looked to be close. That gave Huntington more favorable hitting counts as they racked up three hits, a walk, and a hit-by-pitch to help usher their five runs across home plate.

Huntington would go on to score at least one run in each inning the rest of the way including two in the fourth and four in the fifth to wrap the game in their favor. They totaled 15 hits on the evening.

Central Greenbrier had six hits in the game. Ervin, Carter Huffman, Workman, John Thompson, Trenton Skaggs, and James Godby each had one hit apiece.

**Update on Huntington- On Tuesday night, July 23, Huntington led Barboursville 9-7 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Huntington recorded two quick outs, but two walks and five consecutive hits for Barboursville gave them a 10-9 victory that eliminated Huntington from the state tournament as well.

Isn’t baseball fun, and a little bit crazy?
