Suffolk Police Capt. Kevin McKeon ended his 48-year career Saturday, attending the Sept.11 memorial service at Heckscher Park.

McKeon said he had reached the mandatory retirement age of 70. He said his retirement meant two things: “No more 5:30 a.m. alarms to go to work,” and more time available to spend with his grandchildren.

Huntington Supervisor Ed Smyth called out to him while speaking at the memorial, thanking him for his decades of service to the community.
