Huntington Service Recalls The Lost of Sept.11

Huntington on Saturday remembered its 43 citizens gone 23 years since the devastating terror attacks of Sept.11, 2001.

The remembrance ceremony, led by Supervisor Ed Smyth, included a listing of the names of those connected to Huntington who were killed that day, as well as the singing of the National Anthem and God Bless America, a playing of Taps and Amazing Grace and a bell salute by Terrence J. Farrell, an assistant chief in the Dix Hills Fire Department; the name of his father, Chief Terrence P. Farrell, was on the list.

Msg. Steven Camp of St. Patrick’s Church provided the invocation and benediction.

Speakers recalled where they had been that day, as well as the high cost in individual lives; others remembered the unity felt by many in response to the attacks on the country.

Town councilmembers Theresa Mari, Brooke Lupinacci, Dr. Dave Bennardo and Sal Ferro were also on hand; State Assemblyman Keith Brown and US Rep. Nick LaLota, as well as town tax receiver Jillian Guthman, participated in the ceremony.
