Fans Turn Out for Greenlawn Pickle Festival

The scents of pickle juice and buttered corn wafted across the grounds of the John Gardiner Farm Saturday as the Greenlawn Centerport Historical Association had its 44th annual Pickle Festival.

Kids could hop on the Lollipop train for a spin around the tracks or join a hayride.

Vendors offering everything from arts and crafts, spices, essence, and baked goods were on hand.

But pickles were the star, available in a variety of flavors (including honey mustard, jalapeno and spicy sour), on a half-stick for immediate consumption or in containers to take home or fried.  Pickling spices were also available.

Another vendor was offering pasta products, while the farm stand was also open for business, while some patrons  stopped to enjoy live music, or the antiques car show.

Though busy, it was a calmer than last year when an unexpectedly large crowd arrived, leaving people to wait in a line that stretched up along Park Avenue and down Little Plains Road, hoping to get in.
