Dr. Patrick Harrigan has resigned as superintendent of Half Hollow Hills schools, effective at the end of October.

He has been with the district since 2005 in a variety of positions, including  district deputy superintendent, assistant superintendent for districtwide administration, assistant superintendent for secondary education and as assistant superintendent for research, assessment and special services. He was appointed superintendent in 2017.

He has taken a job with the Oyster Bay-East Norwich district, leaving Half Hollow Hills at the end of October.

Diana Acampora, president of the Board of Education, wrote to parents Friday morning, “On behalf of the Board of Education and our entire community, I would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Harrigan for his outstanding leadership, tireless commitment to our students, and unwavering dedication to educational excellence. He has led Half Hollow Hills to its status as a premier school district on Long Island, in the state and even in national recognition. This is a great loss for all of us.

“Reluctantly, the Board plans to formally accept Dr. Harrigan’s resignation at an upcoming meeting.”

The board said it is committed to a “transparent and thoughtful process to find successor who will continue building upon our district’s solid foundation. The Board will work diligently during this long process to find a leader who shares our vision for the future of Half Hollow Hills and is committed to the success of every student.”
