The bi-annual HBDMB home show is a competition level show for New York State Field Band Conference and scores will count in the band’s standings in the Conference. Awards will be presented after the final performance.
Strategic Plan Updating The Huntington school district is updating its strategic plan and inviting members of the district community to participate. Faculty and staff to students and parents. Alumni, residents without school age children and business owners are invited to join in by offering their thoughts. An online platform called Thought Exchange is live and accessible at the following link:
https://tejoin.com/scroll/520204909. Participation is anonymous and the insights gathered will play a key role in shaping the district’s strategic planning process. “As we continue into the year together, we are very excited to announce the launch of a process to develop our strategic plan,” Superintendent Beth McCoy said. “This will be a pivotal initiative that will shape the future of our district. As we begin this journey, we want to emphasize the importance of your involvement in this endeavor.” The superintendent said the aim of the district’s updated strategic plan is “to create a roadmap that not only reflects the aspects of our school that are already working well but also addresses areas in which we can make improvements. We are committed to considering your perspectives and opinions on the direction we should take.” The survey will remain accessible until Nov. 1.

On Board in South Huntington
Walt Whitman High School senior Gracie DeMarinis will serve as the Ex-Officio Student Member of the South Huntington Board of Education for the 2024-2025 school year. She was approved unanimously by board members at the BOE meeting on Wednesday, September 18th.
DeMarinis is the fourth student to hold the ex-officio seat since South Huntington voters approved the position in 2021. At that time, New York State required that the question of allowing an ex-officio student member had to be put to voters. Now, that board position is about to become state law. This September, New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed a bill that mandates every school board and BOCES board in the state have at least one ex-officio student representative. Student board members are not allowed to vote or attend executive sessions. The law goes into effect on July 1, 2025.
