Missoula City Council imposes a moratorium on new marijuana dispensary licenses
More than two years after recreational marijuana sales began in Montana, state and local officials are exploring ways to halt the opening of new dispensaries. Missoula City Council has imposed a two-year moratorium on new dispensary licenses within city limits. State lawmakers are drafting similar legislation for a state-wide cap.

Seventy-Three Bobcats Earn Spring All-Big Sky Academic Honors
The Big Sky Conference office has released its 2024 Spring All-Academic Team, honoring 667 athletes spanning seven different sports. Idaho State (76) edged Montana State (73) in sports which the Bobcats participate during the spring season. Weber State (71) and Montana (70) were also member institutions with seventy or more all-academic honorees.
Knife-Wielding Woman Arrested in Missoula After Altercation
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - At approximately 6:27 p.m. on July 11, 2024, a Missoula Police Department Officer was dispatched to the area of 501 North California Street. The 911 complainant said there was a female with a knife swinging it at people. Another officer contacted the female on the bike path west of California Street. Officers could see the knife in her right pocket. Once the officers gained positive control of the female, they removed the knife from the female’s right pocket.

Karl Johnson, through his Belgrade-based company YES Compost, moves about 20,000 pounds of food scrap each week. With his two other employees, one part-time, one full-time, he runs five routes that service Bozeman, Big Sky, and Yellowstone National Park, collecting organic material including old apple cores, eggshells and coffee grounds, which over the course of a year he’ll turn, rotate, and sift before returning it to people’s gardens as fresh, rich compost.
