HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Feeling deja vu during this election? Well, you’re not alone. There has been a wide array of responses to the debate last night with some feeling entirely disillusioned, and others leaving with more questions than when they started.

“I thought I knew who I was gonna vote for, I don’t know if I can sleep well voting for either of those people,” local debate viewer Erik Nelson said. “I mean, I wouldn’t trust either of them to be within 10 yards of my kid, why would I trust either of them to run the country?”

Nonetheless, many viewers knew going into this debate that it would not sway their vote.

“It played out exactly as I thought it would, another local viewer Robert Beamon said. “Just, Joe stumbled. Donald led with some mistruths. But, it’s not going to change my vote either way. My mind’s already made up.”

Voters were left with two big questions: will Joe Biden step down from the Democratic Nominee and how will swing voters impact this election?

In terms of Joe Biden stepping down, both the Republican and the Democratic political analysts for News 19 agreed that it is highly unlikely.

“Joe Biden is the nominee for the Democratic Party for the President of the United States in 2024,” said Republican News 19 Political Analyst Jay Town. “The only person that can remove him from the ballot is Joe Biden. The candidates that we saw on the stage last night are the ones that are gonna be on the ballot in November.”

“The likelihood that President Biden will step aside appears to be very slim,” Democratic News 19 Political Analyst David Person said. “He has indicated that again I think through his actions today.”

The incident that Person is referring to is President Biden’s rally in North Carolina.

“I would not be running again if I did not believe in all my heart and soul that I can do this job,” Joe Biden said at the rally today.

Some undecided voters saw the behavior of Biden last night to be alarming about his age.

“It’s sort of hard for me to believe we even have undecided voters in this country at this point, right?” Town said. “But, we do, and, you know, it’s that squishy 8% of the electorate. But, they will decided this election. And so, last night, if people are one issue voters, then they’re gonna vote the way the candidate most speaks to them.”

“I think there’s still plenty of time for President Biden to demonstrate that he’s got the vigor and the mental acuity to continue running the nation,” Person said.
