HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Tuesday was an extremely hot and humid day across the Tennessee Valley.

A strong southeast wind has led to an increase of hot air and moisture across the Southeast.

An upper-level high pressure will remain situated over the region, keeping the hot and humid air mass in place.

This heat dome will prevent warm air from rising, trapping it at the surface. This dangerous heat will continue until the upper-level ridge breaks down.

Heading through the rest of the week, temperatures are forecast to remain well into the 90s on Thursday and Friday afternoon. A cold front passage Friday will bring some relief as rain returns to the forecast and dew points fall back into the 60s.

Hot & humid Fourth of July

Before dew points fall, the heat index values will range from 100 to 110 degrees on Thursday and Friday.

    Heat Advisory through Friday:

With the threat of heat index values surpassing 105 degrees for an extended period, the National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a Heat Advisory. The advisory will last until 7 p.m. Friday.

All counties in North Alabama and Southern Middle Tennessee are included in the advisory.

With the Fourth of July Holiday Thursday, it’s important to practice heat safety.

Make sure to drink plenty of water and electrolytes. Apply multiple layers of sunscreen, wear lightweight and light-colored clothing, and move indoors if you begin experiencing symptoms of heat-related illness.
