HUNTSVILLE, Ala. ( WHNT ) — The Huntsville Police Department held its 70th Session Academy Graduation on Friday morning.

HPD welcomed 14 new cadets during the ceremony who completed the department’s 19-week Academy.

“It’s a tough 19 weeks,” Kevin Becatti, HPD Recruiter said. “The Academy for the Huntsville Police Department is not easy. We don’t want it to be easy. We want to get the best people out there to serve the city.  So, we make sure that we give them the training that is needed. And that takes 19 weeks for us.”

The keynote speaker for the ceremony was Johnnie Sharp, Jr., Assistant Director of the IT Infrastructure Division at the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s campus in Huntsville.

The cadets will start field training next week.
