Right now, recruitment is underway for a fully-funded program that trains adults in cybersecurity and data analytics as demand for cybersecurity specialists grows.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, information security is a fast-growing field. It’s projected to grow 35% from 2021 to 2031.

Branden Gaddis, college and career coordinator with the United Way of Madison County (UWMC), explained that a new cohort is currently being recruited for the edX program.

It’s a partnership between UWMC, Drake State Community & Technical College, the Truist Foundation, Jobs for the Future and edX.

Gaddis said the edX program is all about giving adult learners opportunities through cybersecurity and data analytics certification in hopes of helping them further their careers in key industries.

The 24-week online boot camp starts on September 23, 2024.

The program is geared towards any adult 18 years or older in the Huntsville area, and organizers say it’s ideal for career changers, people who want to move forward in their careers but aren’t ready to commit to a four-year degree or those who are transitioning out of the military.

Class meets three times a week during evening hours.

According to Gaddis, UWMC removes barriers that might keep some adults from succeeding in this program.

That includes giving the students resources like access to childcare, access to transportation, career-readiness support and required equipment.

Organizers say the program allows for flexibility because the courses are fully online.

For 30 qualified applicants, the program will be fully funded.

Program leaders say finishing the boot camp will give students opportunities for good-paying jobs in the area.

Those who finish the program can also apply the credit toward a degree at Drake State.
