HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Five new floors will soon be added to the Madison Street Tower facility at Huntsville Hospital Mall.

Huntsville Hospital received a $10 million donation for this project, the largest charitable donation in the history of the system.

City of Huntsville, HHA awarded $50 million grant for Butler Terrace and Johnson Towers

The project will include a brand new neuroscience intensive care unit and three of the five additional floors will be for medical intensive care or ICU. This project will double the capacity of the emergency room.

Huntsville Hospital’s CEO, Jeff Samz, says this new addition will help combat wait and bed times.

“This project eliminates the use of double occupancy hospital rooms in Huntsville Hospital, nobody wants to share a hospital room, with anyone else and this project puts an end to that practice, once and for all” Samz said.

This project will also benefit the city of Huntsville economically.

“The patient care space being created will add 350 new health care jobs to the local economy,” Samz said.

This project will also allow more flight transfers from regional hospitals.

Samz says the design process is underway, he says he will be meeting with doctors and physicians to make sure the design suits their needs.

No word on when construction is set to begin.
