    Longtime Huntsville Baptist pastor dies at 84

    HUNTSVILLE, Ala. ( WHNT ) — A longtime pastor at Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville died on Friday.

    On Friday, Jimmy Jackson, the longtime pastor of Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville, died at 84 years old.

    Jackson served as the pastor of Whitesburg Baptist Church for 40 years before retiring in 2018.

    Before coming to Huntsville in 1978, Jackson served as the pastor of three other churches in Florida. He was born in Mississippi and got his degree from Mississippi College. He also got his master’s and doctorate from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

    Jackson served as the president of the Alabama Baptist State Convention from 2009-2010. He also served as the first vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention from 2006-2007.

    The church said, “Dr. Jackson’s impact and legacy continues, not only in the life of Whitesburg Baptist Church but around the world.”

    The church also posted Jackson’s funeral arrangements:

    Visitation

    • Monday, July 22 from 4-6:30 p.m. in the Worship Center at Whitesburg Baptist Church

    Funeral

    • Tuesday, July 23 at 1 p.m. in the Worship Center at Whitesburg Baptist Church.
    • Burial will be held at Maple Hill Cemetary following the service at the church

    For those who cannot attend in person, the church says a live stream will be available on its YouTube Channel .
