HPD hosts event for officer candidates before fitness test

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. ( WHNT ) — The Huntsville Police Department invites people interested in becoming an officer to practice for the fitness test.

Once a candidate applies to be a police officer, the next step in the process is to schedule the fitness test. This test must be completed before a candidate can continue to the next hiring step.

On Saturday, July 27 from 8-11 a.m., candidates can attend an informational meet-and-greet to practice the physical fitness test.

The state of Alabama requires all candidates to pass a standard physical fitness and ability test. The event is a time to learn what is required and receive tips on how to be successful from the HPD recruitment team.

“The physical fitness portion of the application process is crucial to ensuring that candidates possess the necessary strength, stamina and agility to perform their duties effectively and safely,” said HPD Recruiter Kevin Becatti.

“Being physically fit isn’t just about meeting the demands of the job; it’s about being prepared to serve and protect our community.”

The fitness test is comprised of:

• 22 pushups in a minute
• 25 situps in a minute
• 90-second agility course
• A mile and a half run in under 15 minutes and 28 seconds
