Scam Alert: Huntsville Utilities warns of scam targeting older customers

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Huntsville Utilities (HU) is warning customers of a scam that is targeting some older customers.

The utility company said scammers claiming to work for Huntsville Utilities are calling customers saying they are eligible for a “senior citizens discount” and then asking for financial information.

HU said it knows of at least one instance where a customer provided the scammer with credit card information.

The company said if customers receive a call like the one described, it is a scam. HU said customers should just hang up.

The utility company said if you believe you have been the victim of a scam, you should contact your bank and local law enforcement immediately.
