HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Two people are facing capital murder charges for a shooting that happened in Huntsville last month.

Alazia Na’Riya Latrice Harris of Montgomery was charged with capital murder for the death of 21-year-old Naji Wiggins in what police believe was an attempted robbery.

Officers with the Huntsville Police Department (HPD) responded to a scene on Spool Lane on July 20 around 5:50 a.m. and found an unresponsive subject, later identified as Wiggins, lying outside the home with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police say a second gunshot victim, identified as 26-year-old Chauncey Devon Smith of Selma, arrived at the hospital a short time later, and the people who brought him there were detained.

According to HPD, investigators determined Smith was involved in the shooting which was the result of an attempted robbery.

A capital murder warrant was issued for Smith, and he is receiving treatment in the hospital and hasn’t been booked into the jail.

Harris ran but later turned herself in to law enforcement in Montgomery. HPD said she was transported to Huntsville on Wednesday and booked.

The incident is still under investigation, the department said.
