    Absentee ballot voting now open in Huntsville

    HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Absentee ballot voting for the August 27 Huntsville municipal elections is now open.

    The City Clerk’s Office says it will accept absentee applications by mail through 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20. The last day for a voter to apply for an absentee ballot in person is August 22, while August 26 is the last day to apply for an emergency absentee ballot.

    Those who qualify for absentee ballot voting include:

    • Those who will be absent on election day
    • Those who are ill or have a physical disability that prevents a trip to the polling place
    • Those who are a registered Alabama voter who are temporarily living outside the county (such as a member of the Armed Forces, a voter employed outside of the United States, a college student, or a spouse or child of such a person)
    • Appointed election offices or poll watchers at a polling place other than your regular polling place
    • Those who work a required shift – 10 hours or more – that coincides with polling hours

    The upcoming election will decide two seats on the Huntsville City Council and two seats on the Huntsville City Schools Board of Education.

    The following City Council candidates have qualified to appear on the ballot:

    • District 1: Devyn S. Keith
    • District 1: Reggie McKenzie
    • District 1: Michelle Watkins
    • District 5: Kim Caudle Lewis
    • District 5: John Meredith

    The following Board of Education candidates have qualified to appear on the ballot:

    • District 1: Will Culver
    • District 1: Claudia Harris
    • District 1: Chaundra M. Jones
    • District 1: Pat King
    • District 5: Zara R. Broadenax
    • District 5: Carlos Mathews

    Absentee ballots can be mailed to the City Clerk’s office at:

    Absentee ballots must be postmarked by Aug. 26 and received by noon Aug. 27 to be counted.
