HURRICANE, WV (WOWK) — The Hurricane Police Department showed off some of their K-9 units during a demonstration Tuesday.

Two helpful hounds brought together a ton of skills, like an immense sense of smell, discipline and protection. 13 News talked with Hurricane K-9 handlers about the training involved, and the interesting day-to-day life of these creatures.

“Our trainers choose the dog based on their drive. If they’re ready to do the job, and then we’re obviously, it’s up to us to make that bond with the dog once we meet them. Me and Cast are best friends. He lives with me, that’s my best buddy, and I give him love as much as I can,” said HPD Sergeant Makenzie White.

Officers also said that these bonds often lead to a great friendship.
