Dallas police investigate fatal shooting of 24-year-old man
DALLAS, Texas — A 24-year-old man was found shot and killed inside an apartment on Lake Avenue, Dallas police say. On July 16, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers responded to a shooting call in the 4600 block of Lake Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered Ashton Barnes, 24, shot inside an apartment. Barnes was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a press release from the Dallas Police Department. There is currently no suspect description available. A city council member in Farmers Branch has come under fire for comments made during a meeting Tuesday in which he appeared to call Dallas Area Rapid Transit riders "trash." The comments from District 4 Councilmember Richard Jackson came during a discussion on safety, as the northwest Dallas suburb’s city council weighed a resolution to cap its one-cent contribution to DART. The Dallas Area Rapid Transit board of directors is divided over its response to growing calls from some of its member cities to cut the agency's funding. Seventy-five percent of DART's funding comes from its 13 member cities, which each contribute one cent per sales tax dollar.
