Telemarketing Terror
Don’t you just love it when your caller ID shows an unfamiliar name or phone number but you answer anyway in the scant chance it’s not a telemarketing call? Unfortunately, 99 times out of 100 it turns into just that, with one of these typical first-liners:. “Hello, this is Sarah...

Sweets and Non-Sweets to My Sweetheart
Let’s play a little Valentine’s Day game. I’m going to name things that fill my head when thinking of my lovely wife, but one item in each list is a no-no. So, here we go:. Good things to smell:. Ocean breezes. Bakeries. Leather. Duck droppings. Good things to eat:. Stone...
Clearwater Bay to Beach Bike Trail
The motto of the City of Clearwater is “Bright and Beautiful – from the Bay to the Beach.”. Back in 2019, I thought it’d be cool to have a GoPro video made of all the trails that bicyclists use to travel from the Bay to the Beach. If you’ve never explored these trails, they offer unparalleled scenic views and meander through some of the city’s nature parks.
Paint a Picture
Everyone possesses a creative streak looking for a way to express itself. Here’s something that did the trick for me. I’ve always had an artistic side. Obviously. I’m a writer and photographer. But I hadn’t sat behind an easel since grade school. For one reason or another I’ve kept putting it off, but that love for painting never checked out of my consciousness. But like all old hobbies sometimes do, it suddenly beckoned me again. This time I listened.
Mark Your Park
Did you know that Clearwater boasts seven community parks/recreation centers, 24 neighborhood parks, 29 environmental parks, 23 open space parks and 27 special facilities? Together, these 83 park sites and 27 facilities – such as the McMullen Tennis Complex, Jack Russell Stadium, and Eddie C. Moore Complex – range in acreage from 0.11 to 160.6 acres.
The Brady Bunch Is Super!
Tampa Bay isn’t just the champions, we’re the national TAMPIONS in all pro sports. The Bucs win the Super Bowl. The Lightning won the Stanley Cup. The Rays go to the World Series, just missing a trifecta. And if our town had a pro basketball team, you could bet your skyhook that it would have been the best in the NBA this year. Yessir, to borrow an unoriginal moniker, we should be referred to as Champa Bay.
Excavation seeks those left behind in 1954 cemetery relocation
The earth has been pulled back from the foundation of the Clearwater Intermediate School on Hoyt Avenue, preparing the ground for archeologists to look for human remains. At the request of Clearwater/Upper Pinellas chapter of the NAACP and the Clearwater Heights Remembrance Committee, archeologists from Cardno engineering firm and the Florida Public Archaeology Network are looking for any bodies that may have been left behind in 1954 when a cemetery was moved to Dunedin.
Super Bowl Champs!
No, I’m not jinxing the Bucs in the Super Bowl matchup this Sunday night by prematurely announcing they won it. After all, the Bucs did the trick many moons ago, but any proclamation of being called champions have long since been preceded by the words “were” and “formerly.”. But just...
Most Romantic Restaurants in Clearwater
Surprisingly (or not), my husband has very few faults. Yes, he snores like a New York subway pulling into the Times Square station – or a Walmart shopping cart, take your pick. And yup, he makes gasping strangulation sounds when I, on the rare occasion, get behind the wheel and...
Higher Learning: What growing up around Tour legends taught me about golf and life
Article reprinted with permission from Golf.com: https://golf.com/instruction/growing-up-around-tour-legends-taught-me There is never a good time to get the shanks, but some occasions are more traumatic than others, like, say, during the pro-am at the 1966 Doral Open. It was there that I witnessed a poor fellow hit one mortifying hosel rocket after...
Dine Out for a Difference at The District
The District in Downtown Clearwater is more than just commerce — it’s about community … and compassion. The closures of the 400 and 500 blocks of Cleveland Street have created a new synergy and energy. It’s all about 15 restaurants and small businesses forming a friendly coalition and giving back to the very community that’s supported them.

There’s an accordion from Eastern Europe on the wall, outdoor diners chatting in Croat and Serbian on the front porch, and a white dog sleeping peacefully on the floor behind the cash register. The dog is Bingo, the friendly owner taking with customers is Samira Karic, and the place is...
