North Iowa Fair concludes on Sunday
“A World of Wows” was the theme for the 2024 edition of the fair, held annually in Mason City at the North Iowa Events Center and Fairgrounds. Hundreds of exhibits from local 4-H participants and others were highlighted at the fair; from static displays and visual art to living, breathing animals of every sort.

NWS Says At Least 27 Tornadoes In Chicago Area On July 15th
During the evening hours of July 15, a well-organized and long-lived complex of thunderstorms rolled across Iowa, Illinois and parts of Indiana. Widespread damaging winds of 60 to locally 100 mph were observed within the line, especially from eastern Iowa, northern Illinois, and central Illinois. In addition, at least 27 occurred in the NWS Chicago County Warning Area.
Nebraska receiving $307M as part of EPA $4.3 billion funding to reduce climate pollution
The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy will receive $307 million to boost “climate-smart” agriculture and reduce agricultural waste from livestock, officials said. The grant also will fund projects to improve energy efficiency in commercial and industrial facilities and low-income households, as well as deploy solar panels and electrify irrigation wells.
Des Moines woman wins $500,000 Iowa Lottery prize

Melissa Runnels of Des Moines took home a $500,000 prize, the 11th top prize in the Iowa Lottery's "$500,000 CA$H" scratch game. She purchased her winning ticket at Git N Go (1307 Army Post Rd.) in Des Moines.

(Atlantic) Thousands of bicycle enthusiasts hailing from coast to coast and abroad are traveling across Iowa for RAGBRAI 2024. The trip started in Glenwood on Sunday, spent Sunday night in Red Oak, and headed out on Monday morning through Elliott, Griswold, and Lewis for an overnight stay in Atlantic. Missing Man With Dementia Found Near Ocheyedan
Ocheyedan, Iowa — An elderly man with dementia who was reported missing Thursday from Jackson County, Minnesota has been found safe in northwest Iowa. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says the man, Ordell Skogen from Jackson, was reported missing on Thursday afternoon. They say he left his home in a red 2016 Toyota Rav 4 in an unknown direction of travel. According to law enforcement, the vehicle did not have a service such as OnStar, and he didn’t have a cell phone. They say Skogen has no sense of direction.
