Veterans ride set for July 20
ELK CITY — An Elk City-Idaho County Sheriff’s Office Veterans Ride is set for July 20. This is for all , veterans and nonveterans. The 9 a.m. poker run for ATVs, UTVs and Jeeps is $10 per hand. Multiple routes will be set for the varying vehicle sizes. The event will include prizes, a 5 p.m. dinner (free for veterans) is $10 and includes burgers, hot dogs, salads and sides. Music with a deejay starts at 7 p.m., with everyone invited to join the fun for free.
Idaho County Commission: Applications open for IT position; no to subdivision
GRANGEVILLE — Stating his confidence that Bingo Flat LLC, represented by Mike Kennedy, would make thorough and complete plans for the subdivision, Commissioner Ted Lindsley moved to approve the variance of the county’s subdivision ordinance (updated County Ord. 70) for the splitting of 80 acres for development. However, after a lengthy discussion between the commissioners, Kennedy, and a resident living near the proposed area (west of Grangeville), the motion failed to receive a second, and the request was denied. The meeting on Tuesday, June 25, was a continuation of the public hearing at the previous week’s meeting. In attendance were commissioners Lindsley, Skip Brandt and Denis Duman, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Matt Jessup, and County Clerk Kathy Ackerman.
County officials work with April flood victims on assistance
Idaho and Lewis county officials are processing documentation on private flood damages suffered earlier this spring to open up availability for low-cost loans to assist with repairs. Meanwhile, a federal disaster declaration approved earlier this month may facilitate public funds for millions of dollars in repairs to public infrastructure damaged incurred in the April 14-15 event.

Body of Idaho woman found alongside car in Big Salmon River
IDAHO COUNTY, Idaho – The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office has recovered the car and body of an Idaho woman from the Big Salmon River, who had been missing since May. According to Idaho County deputies, Marsha Hayes, the missing woman, was last seen on May 22 driving northbound on Highway 95 toward Riggins with her service dog. A few days later, authorities located car parts and confirmed that the license plate found in the river belonged to Hayes.

On June 27, 2024, the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office and United Search Corp recovered Marsha Hayes and her vehicle from the Big Salmon River. Marsha Hayes was last seen on the morning of May 22, 2024, driving northbound on Highway 95 from Riggins with her Australian Shepherd service dog, Maggie. She was driving a grey 2006 Acura MDX. On May 24, 2024, vehicle parts and a license plate were found along the river and were confirmed to belong to Marsha.
Idaho County Commissioners: IT needs still sought; subdivision under consideration
GRANGEVILLE — The Board of Idaho County Commissioners held a public hearing on a requested variance to Idaho County’s subdivision ordinance on Tuesday, June 11, at the weekly meeting. Commissioners Skip Brandt, Denis Duman and Ted Lindsley heard the request from Mike Kennedy of Bingo Flat LLC regarding the development of nine housing lots located west of Grangeville. A variance to the existing subdivision regulations (see Idaho County ordinance #59) requires less time and expense for a developer; however, it can also cause future problems.
