The Homedale baseball team was one out away from winning the 3A State Title on Saturday, but four runs by Sugar-Salem in the seventh inning gave the Diggers a 10-9 win and the state championship.

Homedale led 7-6 with two outs in the top of the seventh, but back-to-back-to-back RBI singles put the Diggers up late.

Homedale (23-5) had one last push in it, scoring a run on a balk to make it 10-8, then getting within one run on an RBI single by Dillon Fine with one out in the inning.

Fine was able to get to second base on a wild pitch, but a pop out in foul territory and groundout prevented the Trojans from plating the game-tying run.

Jayden Wutherich had two RBIs for Homedale.

    KNIGHTS FALL IN SEVENTH

The Bishop Kelly Knights saw their state title dreams slip away in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Moscow scored two runs to take a 7-6 walk-off win in the 4A State Championship game.

The Knights (18-10) took a 6-5 lead in the top of the seventh inning with Dean Herkenrath scoring with two outs on a wild pitch.

Bishop Kelly walked the first two batters of the seventh inning, one scored on a single and the other on an error, ending the game.

Gianni Caltagirone had two RBIs for Bishop Kelly in the loss.

    Third-Place Games

5A: MOUNTAIN VIEW 5, LAKE CITY 2: Cade Burnham and Evan Perry both had RBIs as Mountain View took control with four runs in the second inning and never looked back, on its way to clinching the third-place trophy.

Tate Baird struck out four in five innings on the mound for the Mavericks (18-11).

3A: KIMBERLY 5, FRUITLAND 3: Kimberly scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning, keeping Fruitland from taking home a trophy at state.

Quinn Hood, Jace Mordhorst and Max Vidlak all had RBIs for the Grizzlies (18-8).

    Consolation Championship

5A: HIGHLAND 9, MIDDLETON 2: Middleton was limited to two hits as the Vikings (22-8) fell in the 5A State Consolation Championship game.

Three Highland pitchers combined for seven strikeouts.

4A: SKYVIEW 10, POCATELLO 0, 5 INNINGS: Caden Yesford pitched five no-hit innings for Skyview (24-4) to take home the consolation trophy.

Mason Krahn was 2 for 3 with four RBIs, while Ledger Downs also drove in two runs.

3A: PARMA 7: SOUTH FREMONT 0: Kaden Cole allowed two hits while striking out ten as Parma took the 3A state consolation championship.

Jared Mikelson drove in two runs for the Panthers (9-19).

2A: COLE VALLEY CHRISTIAN 8, NAMPA CHRISTIAN 2: Blake Wilson struck out nine Nampa Christian batters while pitching a no-hitter, allowing just two unearned runs.

Noah Grimm was 4 for 4 with three RBIs at the plate for the Chargers (23-7-1).
