    HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: Rocky Mountain dominates, remains unbeaten

    Rocky Mountain continued to show its dominance Friday with a 56-10 victory against Centennial, moving the Grizzlies to 5-0 this season and 2-0 in conference play.

    The Grizzlies took a 35-0 lead by halftime as quarterback Austin Rovig added to his season touchdown total of 14. Rovig completed 4-of-5 passes for 64 yards but scored twice, finding Jeff Thompson in the end zone each time.

    The ground game was unstoppable, led by 102 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries from Jordan Kafari. Taeshawn Reece, who leads the team with seven rushing scores, found the end zone twice and finished with 96 yards on a dozen carries. Kaelen Custer had just two carries but racking up 79 yards and a touchdown, while Kaiden Kimball-Turner had a 37-yard score.

    The defense played three quarters of shutout ball, led by Trey Jacobsen’s two interceptions, while Cole Bucher finished with five tackles. Rowan Rupp and Ryland Kelley each had four tackles.

    Sawyer McClinden was a perfect 8 for 8 in PAT kicks.

    Centennial got on the board twice in the third quarter on a 28-yard touchdown rush from Zane Hiedamin and a 24-yard field goal by Gannon Miller.

    Rocky Mountain visits Meridian on Friday, and Centennial (0-5, 0-2) visits Capital on Thursday.

    Nampa 31, Skyview 28

    With 3:14 left to play in a tied game, Nampa’s offense put the ball in position for kicker Makai Venegas to win it Friday, and he found the uprights from 39 yards out with no time remaining, leading the Bulldogs to a 31-28 victory over crosstown rival Skyview.

    The Bulldogs pulled ahead with a 28-7 lead midway through the third quarter, but Skyview scored three unanswered touchdowns to tie the game in an attempt to win its first game of the season. Unfortunately for the Hawks, the Bulldogs had just enough time to drive downfield for the victory.

    Venegas also had three receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown pass from quarterback Ryker Good. Truman Garner also took snaps and threw a touchdown pass, his going to Kartez Hernandez. Hernandez also carried a dozen times for 109 yards, while Good had 23 carries for 104 yards and a touchdown.

    On defense, Alex Fitch had eight tackles and a sack while Conner Campbell also had eight tackles.

    Mason Krahn led Skyview with 26 carries for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Henry Downey found Dane Bowman in the end zone twice and finished with 98 yards on 8-of-16 passing. Bowman had 77 yards on four catches.

    Logan Henslee led the Hawks defense with 11 tackles, while Cooper Mai had a sack and Bowman had an interception.

    Nampa (3-3, 2-1) is off next week and hosts Ridgevue on Oct. 11. Skyview (0-5, 0-3) hosts Bishop Kelly on Friday.

    Timberline 21, Capital 0

    Timberline improved to 4-1 and 2-0 in conference play Friday with a 21-0 shutout of Capital.

    Wolves quarterback Jack Brant led the way with 137 yards and a touchdown on 16-of-26 passing, with Shelby Idol catching his touchdown throw, finishing with six catches for 74 yards. Hudson Lewis and Brody Engroff had rushing touchdowns for Timberline’s other scores.

    Capital (0-5, 0-2) hosts Centennial on Thursday. The Wolves visit Middleton on Friday.

    Middleton 31, Meridian 30 (OT)

    Middleton and Meridian went to battle and took it to overtime Friday, but the Warriors gambled on a two-point conversion for the victory and lost to give the Vikings the 31-30 win.

    Tied at 24 to send the game to overtime, Middleton took the ball first and scored on a 9-yard run by Brayden Stiek and a successful PAT kick put the Vikings up by seven. On the Warriors’ possession, quarterback Zeke Martinez found Dahani Alvarado-McDaniel from 3 yards out. Instead of kicking to tie and force another overtime Meridian chose to pass, but Martinez’s attempt fell incomplete.

    Middleton quarterback Brockton Smith completed 14 of 18 passes for 191 yards. On the ground, Jake Perez carried 25 times for 82 yards and two scores. Drew Holman had a rushing touchdown, and Colton Severa caught five passes for 92 yards. Tyler Robinson nailed a 35-yard field goal.

    Martinez completed 15 of 20 passes for 172 yards and three touchdowns, and he rushed for another score. Daysen Boltz and Lucas Miller caught Martinez’s other scoring passes.

    Middleton (3-2, 2-0) hosts Timberline on Friday, Meridian (1-4, 0-2) hosts Rocky Mountain.

    Eagle 52, Mountain View 14

    Eagle improved to 3-0 in conference play and 4-1 overall with a big 52-14 victory Friday over Mountain View.

    Mustangs quarterback Austin Ramsey threw four touchdown passes with Gavin Crawford, Noah Burnham and Dallin Snooks as his targets. The fourth scoring receiver was not reported. Ramsey finished 7 of 12 for 107 yards. On defense, Chance Jones snatched a Mountain View pass for a 60-yard pick-6. A second interception was returned for an Eagle touchdown, but the scoring player was not reported.

    Lukas Boockholdt also nailed a 27-yard field goal for Eagle.

    Eagle played three quarters of shutout defense to 52-0 lead before Mountain View got on the board in the fourth. This, despite Mountain View outgaining Eagle in yards, picking up 218 to Eagles’ 164 yards.

    Mavericks quarterback Henry Nelson completed 15 of 31 pass attempts for 167 yards, but back Jacob Allen scored the lone offensive touchdown on a 3-yard rush. The defense took the ball away for the Mavericks’ other touchdown when Ike Mooney returned a fumble to the end zone.

    The Mustangs host Owyhee on Friday while Mountain View (1-5, 0-3) visits Boise.

    Homedale 59, Payette 7

    The undefeated Homedale Trojans opened conference play Friday with a 59-7 victory over Payette, led by three touchdowns from Xavier Uranga.

    The quarterback didn’t rack up many yards, completing 5-of-5 passes for 85 yards, but he found a receiver for a touchdown on three of them. Domingo Asumendi and Caden Layne hauled in two touchdown passes. The third was not reported.

    Homedale picked up most of their yards with the ground game, led by 93 yards on just three attempts by Luke Henry. Nick Schlenker had 14 carries for 80 yards, and Kade Hall rushed four times to pick up 68 yards.

    Payette’s lone score came on a touchdown pass from Darrien Pecunia to receiver Jahzyon Sylva. Quarterback Pecunia completed 4 of 10 passes for 76 yards, while Sylva had two catches for 35 yards. Carlito Ramirez rushed 11 times for 63 yards.

    Homedale (5-0, 1-0) visits Weiser on Friday, while Payette (3-2, 0-1) hosts Fruitland.

    Weiser 27, McCall-Donnelly 21

    Tied at 21 in the fourth quarter, Weiser quarterback Kolin Cook took a four-down snap and found Xander Gray from 29 yards out to score the go-ahead touchdown Friday and give the Wolverines a 27-21 victory against McCall-Donnelly.

    Gray caught two passes for 51 yards and the game winning touchdown, while Josh Mizar and Cole Ingle caught Cook’s other scoring passes.

    Cook threw three touchdowns on 6-of-13 passing and finished with 86 yards.

    Kash Cobb led the ground game with 26 carries for 158 yards and a touchdown. Ingle carried 11 times for 82 yards.

    On defense, Cobb had 13 tackles, while Cook and Diego Delgadillo each had 11.

    Weiser (3-2, 1-0) hosts Homedale on Friday.

    Nampa Christian 20, Melba 14

    Nampa Christian opened conference play Friday with a 20-14 victory over Melba.

    Trojans quarterback Pete Dice threw for one touchdown and 117 yards on 13-of-20 passing and rushed for another score. He connected with Tyler Szilagyi for his passing touchdown. Ian Johnson had Nampa Christian’s other rushing touchdown.

    Mustang quarterback Mike Lester completed 4-of-9 attempts for 72 yards and two touchdowns.

    The Trojans (2-3, 0-1) host Parma on Friday, while Melba (1-4, 0-1) is off next week before traveling to Parma on Oct. 11.
