One Treasure Valley resident was hospitalized and another was killed after a pickup truck overturned in Idaho County.

The crash occurred at 3:10 p.m. Saturday near Elk City Summit Road and Newsome Creek Road — in the forest of north-central Idaho — where a 2001 Ford F350 lost the ability to brake, drove off the road and went up an embankment before overturning, an Idaho State Police news release said.

The vehicle was being driven by a 57-year-old Nampa man, who was uninjured in the crash. One of his passengers, a 67-year-old Nampa woman, was hospitalized. The other passenger, a 41-year-old man from Ontario, Oregon, died at the scene, ISP said.

Neither the driver nor the male passenger were wearing a seat belt, ISP said. The female passenger was wearing a seat belt.

The road was closed in both directions for more than three hours while emergency responders processed the crash scene, ISP said.
