Denver mayor touts responses to homelessness, immigration in first State of City speech
Denver has accomplished much after one year under Mayor Mike Johnston, he said in his State of the City speech Monday, but he added there is still much to do if the city is to become a “vibrant” hometown and “capital of the New West.”. During the...
This Air Force Academy Hotel Includes a Flight Simulator
Opening this fall in Colorado Springs, the Hotel Polaris is taking a few cues from the institution it’s situated beside — namely, the U.S. Air Force Academy. A glimpse at the photos and renderings released of the hotel to date show a clean, classical design with plenty of natural light and views of the nearby landscape, including Pikes Peak. There’s also something that it will have that its peers do not: a flight simulator. Three of them, to be precise — and that’s set to make Hotel Polaris the only hotel with such an amenity in the United States.

MONDAY BRIEFING | July 22, 2024
The skies have dropped a bit over a half-inch of rain so far in July, keeping the high desert mountain valley refreshed and on a three-month streak of measurable precipitation going back to May. The summer rains aren’t a substitute for winter snowpack, but they sure help with recharging the...
Illegal Pete's DU Reopens After Remodel
It's back! One of our favorite places for a burrito fix when we're high (or anytime, really) is serving once again near the University of Denver. The Illegal Pete's at 1744 East Evans Avenue had been closed since late December for a refresh after fifteen years in business. At the...
Sean Payton says he was probably guilty of marking his territory in first season with Broncos
When Sean Payton joined the Denver Broncos last year, he quickly made it clear to everyone that it would be his way or the highway. Payton promptly kicked quarterback Russell Wilson’s personal QB coach out of the team’s facility, and he also hinted that he was not a fan of Wilson’s frequent hype posts on social media. “I kind of use this term, ‘A little bit more anonymous donors this season,’” Payton said. “Just know that we’re working, but with a little bit less visibility on social media and all those other things. We’re going to get to work, and ultimately, it’s...

Strike 1: Denver Nuggets fandom is worried. Instead of enjoying the upcoming Paris Summer Olympics, Nuggets Nation is fretting about the participation and injury possibilities that lie ahead for the team’s two superstars, Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray. (It doesn’t help that neither is playing for Team USA.)
The Cost of Colorado Option Insurance is About to Increase
Back in 2022, Colorado and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services came together to create “Colorado Option”. The idea has been to reduce racial and ethnic health disparities by giving Coloradans new coverage options. However, it would seem prices are about to go up for all...

Boulder High School grad Bjorn Riley skipped the under-age-23 races at the mountain biking national championships this past weekend. He figured it would be wise to race in the men’s elite bracket ahead of his upcoming free agency in a few months. Good call. Riley, 22, stopped by his...
