The Marsh Valley boys basketball team’s season was on the brink following a 28-point shellacking at the hands of rival Snake River 48 hours ago.

But the fifth-ranked Eagles responded from their worst loss of the season with a double-digit win of their own Friday. They staved off elimination and advanced to the Class 3A District V title game with a 67-52 win over American Falls.

Kaden Bullock put the team on his back with a game-high 32 points. The senior only missed three shots all night by going 10-of-13 from the field for Marsh Valley, which had already doubled up American Falls 32-16 at the break.

The Eagles will play the top-ranked Panthers (20-2) again for the district title. Snake River (20-2) has already beaten them three times and hasn’t lost in 17 games this season.

Beau Brower had 22 points for the Beavers (12-11), whose season came to an end.

    SODA SPRINGS 72, MALAD 60

Quinten Hansen netted a game-high 32 points for the Cardinals (11-10), who kept their season alive with a Class 2A District V Tournament elimination game Thursday.

Daniel Dockstader added 16 points for Soda Springs, which will play another elimination game Saturday. This time it will be on the road against No. 1 seed Bear Lake (11-11) at 7 p.m.

Braylen Tripp had 19 points for the Dragons who ended their season 6-18. Zach Richardson and Ryan Hubbard also reached double digits in scoring with 15 and 12 points, respectively.

It marks the fourth straight losing season by Malad.

Brayden Parker totaled 20 points, including a pair of three points, but the Bengals (11-15 overall, 6-7 Big Sky Conference) still had their three-game winning streak snapped on the road Thursday.

Parker also had four rebounds and three assists.

Kiree Huie posted an impressive shooting night going 8-of-11 from the field for 18 points. This was in addition to his four rebounds and two steals. And rounding out Idaho State players in double figures was Miguel Tomley with 10 points.

Maleek Arington notched a career-high nine assists for Idaho State, which will continue its road trip Saturday at arch-rival Idaho. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. MT.

    WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

EASTERN WASHINGTON 59, IDAHO STATE 56

Halle Wright had a career night with 20 points on 4-of-5 shooting from 3-point range, but it wasn’t quite enough as the Bengals (10-14, 6-7) suffered their fourth straight loss Thursday inside of Reed Gym.

She was a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe and added six rebounds. Wright was the only Idaho State player to finish the game in double figures. Laura Bello and Kacey Spink did have 12 and 10 boards, respectively, in the loss.

The Bengals will now look to snap their skid when they welcome in Idaho at 2 p.m. Saturday.
