    PREP ROUNDUP: Century tennis downs Burley for first win of the season

    The Century High School tennis team swept boys singles, boys doubles and mixed doubles to double up Burley 8-4 for its first win of the season in nonconference play Thursday.

    Max Sheng, Ethan Myler and Shep Butler all won in boys singles. The teams of Daniel McGee/Liam McGee, Kallon Spicer/Nate Romriell and Dalen Thebald/Payton Lattin and Gabe Sule/Riley Erickson all rolled in boys doubles and mixed doubles, respectively, by allowing just four game points each.

    CENTURY 6, BONNEVILLE 6Daniel McGee/Liam McGee and Kallon Spicer/Tiden Lynn both picked up sweeps in boys doubles, as the Diamondbacks opened their season with a tie Tuesday.

    Max Sheng and Ethan Myler also won in singles for Century, which got 4.5 of its points on the boys’ side.

    But Katie Spicer did bounce back for a 2-4, 4-1, 1-0 win in girls singles.

    SOFTBALLPRESTON 15, WEST SIDE 5Kylee Chatterson recorded two hits, including a triple, for an RBI, as the Indians (1-0) had an impressive season opener Thursday.

    Sydni Cleverly had a pair of RBIs and Maysa Jones picked up the win in the circle with seven strikeouts.

    DECLO 6, SODA SPRING 5

    Abby Goodin gave up a walkoff home run to center field to Rachel Nebeker in the bottom of the seventh inning, as the Cardinals (0-1) lost a heartbreaker in their season opener Thursday.

    Brynlee Hemmert went a perfect 4-of-4 from the plate, including a double. Emily Thornock added two hits and a pair of RBIs. Goodin also had a couple hits and five strikeouts in the circle in the loss.

    HIGHLAND DROPS A DOUBLEHEADER TO TWIN FALLSOlyvia Bobish and McKenna Sutton had at least one hit in both games for a combined three apiece, as the Rams (0-2) opened the year with a nonconference doubleheader loss Monday.

    Highland lost the opener 9-2 after being held to just four hits. The Rams then exploded in the nightcap with 18 hits — Lauren Barlow totaled four of those, including an inside the park home run — but it still wasn’t enough in a 13-8 defeat.

    BASEBALLPRESTON SPLITS WITH SHELLEYConner Thomson totaled four hits, including three doubles, an RBI and even four strikeouts on the mound to lead the Indians (1-2) in splitting a doubleheader with Shelley 0-1, 12-2 Thursday.

    Klayton Hobbs had two hits, including a double, and a pair of RBIs, in the 12-2 nightcap win.

    TIMBERLAKE 3, MALAD 2

    Brycen Howe racked up 11 strikeouts and allowed just one hit in five innings of work, but the Dragons (0-1) gave up two runs after his exit in the sixth inning to open the year with a narrow nonconference loss Thursday.

    Malad only had three hits and were struck out 10 times as a team on the night.

    DECLO 12, SODA SPRINGS 2

    Kyen Kirby had two of the team’s three hits as the Cardinals’ (0-1) season opener didn’t exactly go as planned Thursday.

    SNAKE RIVER STARTS SEASON WITH DOUBLEHEADER LOSS

    Coy Fisher combined for three hits and a pair of RBIs, but the Panthers (0-2) opened the season Monday with 12-2 and 9-4 losses to Kimberly in nonconference play.

    HILLCREST 10, PRESTON 8

    Eli Hammons went 2-for-4 at the plate and Conner Thomson added a pair of RBIs as the Indians (0-1) opened the season with a nonconference loss on March 8.
