POCATELLO — A new young adult librarian and self-proclaimed resident cat lady has started working at the Marshall Public Library.

Gracie Marsden, the new librarian, said she’s been at the library for about a month. She has loved being able to plan activities and help the young teenagers she serves find what they need.

“I’ve been talking to the teenagers and asking what they want space to do,” she said. “It’s fun to provide them with a space where they can be themselves.”

Marsden said one thing a lot of teenagers have expressed interest in is starting a Dungeons and Dragons club.

“It’s time for me to learn more about D&D,” she said. “It’s a great learning experience for me.”

Marsden said she has also been able to teach young people about some of the things that she’s interested in. She has started a yarn club where she teaches them how to knit and crochet.

“It’s interesting to see the interest in knitting and crocheting,” she said.

Marsden said her favorite part about being a librarian is getting to interact with people who have similar interests to her. She said she recently had a Taylor Swift party where she was able to connect with people of all ages.

“It was so much fun to be silly and to share something we were all really excited about,” she said.

Marsden said she looks forward to building strong relationships with the community. She said she hopes to be able to call library patrons by name and talk to them about their lives.

“I love books, but a lot of the things that I’m excited about have more to do with people than just providing books,” she said.
