    PREP ROUNDUP: Highland softball team's struggles continue in doubleheader loss to Thunder Ridge

    Friday’s doubleheader against Thunder Ridge is one the Highland softball team would like to forget.

    The Rams combined for just five total hits between the two games in a 8-0 and 13-4 losses at Capell Park. They’ve now dropped 10 of their last 11 games and fall to 4-20 overall and 2-10 in 5A District V-VI Conference play.

    Highland was no-hit in the opener. The only highlights there were McKenna Sutton’s five strikeouts in the circle.

    Emerson Gifford had two hits in the nightcap, while Janae Whitehead drove in a pair of runs.

    POCATELLO 10, IDAHO FALLS 0, 5 INNINGSMiah Lusk tossed a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts, as the Thunder (19-3, 6-0 4A South East Idaho Conference) cruised in nonconference play Friday.

    Oakley Hirschi drove in four runs on a grand slam, while Jordy Snell had two hits, including a double and a pair of RBIs.

    BLACKFOOT 10, CENTURY 0, 5 INNINGSPreslie Wright and Emma McGuire logged two hits apiece and combined for seven RBIs, as the Broncos (14-8, 7-3 4A High Country Conference) eased to a nonconfernece win Friday.

    McGuire drove in four runs, while Kaili Verlanic got the win in the circle by allowing just four hits and fanning five batters.

    Emme Cooke had two of the Diamondbacks’ (7-15, 2-4 4A South East Idaho Conference) hits in the loss.

    MALAD 16, WEST SIDE 0, 3 INNINGS

    Riglee Peterson struck out all nine batters she faced in a three-inning perfect game, as the Dragons (21-0-1, 6-0 2A South East Idaho Conference) ran their unbeaten streak to 53 games Friday in league play.

    Peterson was also one of four different players to drive in two runs. Bostyn Combs, Hallie Horsley and Logan Maroney all had two RBIs apiece. Maroney, Peterson and Adley Kimberling (two doubles), tallied two hits each, too.

    BEAR LAKE 10, SODA SPRINGS 3

    Sadara Preece tallied three hits, including two doubles, and drove in a run in the Bears’ (12-11, 4-2 2A South East Idaho Conference) league win Friday.

    Morgan Armstrong drove in three runs on two hits, while Brooklynn Crockett earned the win in the circle. She did so by allowing just four hits with eight strikeouts.

    Aspen Davis had two doubles and a RBI for the Cardinals (6-11, 2-4) in the loss.

    BASEBALL

    BLACKFOOT ADVANCES IN DISTRICT TOURNAMENT WITH WINS OVER HILLCREST

    Jace Cooper combined for four hits, including a home run and a double, for eight RBIs, as the Broncos (20-5) moved on at the Class 4A District VI Tournament with 11-0 and 10-1 wins in a best-of-three series Friday.

    Sy Callister also had a home run and totaled five RBIs on the day.

    Dax Whitney came within a walk in the third inning of the opener from throwing his second perfect game of the season. The Oregon State signee still threw a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts for Blackfoot.

    PRESTON 10, CENTURY 4

    Eli Hammons gave up just five hits and struck out five, while coming away with two hits at the plate, as the Indians (8-11) opened the Class 4A District V Tournament with a win Friday.

    Austin Gleed and Janson Hollingsworth also had two hits apiece.

    Conner Thomson drove in a game-high three runs and Klayton Hibbs batted in two for Preston in the win.

    Jackson Zaccardi had two hits for the Diamondbacks (7-15) in the loss.

    BEAR LAKE 6, SODA SPRINGS 1

    Jack Hulme put up a two-hit, nine-strikeout performance on the bump, as the Bears (2-12, 1-3 2A South East Idaho Conference) got their first league win of the season Friday.

    Dawson Beard added two hits and a RBI for Bear Lake in the win.

    Kyne Kirby had a double for the Cardinals (3-18, 1-3) in the loss.

    TENNIS

    CENTURY BOYS DOWN POCATELLO, WHILE GIRLS TIE

    The Century boys tennis team remained undefeated within the 4A classification and did so in dominant fashion with a 6-0 win over crosstown rival Pocatello Friday. They’re now 11-2 on the season.

    The girls, meanwhile, ended up in a 3-3 tie.

    Max Sheng and Ethan Myler didn’t drop a single game in their 6-0, 6-0 sweeps in boys singles. The dynamic brother duo of Daniel/Liam McGee did the same in boys doubles.

    Bel Miller led the girls with her 6-1, 6-0 win over Devri Uehlein in No. 1 girls singles.
