Several supplemental levies for local school districts were approved by voters in Tuesday’s election.

In a unique situation, the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District told voters weeks ago that it no longer needed the $33 million Highland High School bond issue that was on Tuesday’s ballot. This announcement had come after the state had approved legislation to provide the funding to restore the fire-damaged school.

As a result, the Highland bond was soundly defeated at the polls on Tuesday with 4,357 votes against and 2,517 in favor.

Voters across Southeast Idaho did support badly needed supplemental levies for several other local school districts.

The American Falls School District’s $2.75 million annual supplemental levy was approved with 635 votes in favor and 453 against.

The Snake River School District’s $700,000 annual supplemental levy was approved with 1,192 votes in favor and 579 against.

The Bear Lake School District’s $1.5 million annual supplemental levy was approved with 1,037 votes in favor and 513 against.

The Grace School District’s $500,000 annual supplemental levy was approved with 381 votes in favor and 248 against.

The Soda Springs School District’s $993,000 annual supplemental levy was approved with 563 votes in favor and 362 against.

The Aberdeen School District’s $950,000 annual supplemental levy was approved with 260 votes in favor and 188 against.

All of the supplemental levies were approved for two-year increments except for the Soda Springs School District levy, which was approved for only one year.

just another reason for them to gouge the property taxes and other miscellaneous fees, rather than take any accountability on their spending, and actually appropriate funds properly.

you should not have a vote on property taxes unless you own property.
