MONTPELIER — Despite unexpected challenges posed by inclement weather and a crash on the highway, the annual Bear Lake Car Show at Wells C. Stock Park on Aug. 27 saw dedicated automobile enthusiasts and classic vehicle owners gather for a day of admiration and camaraderie.

Normally a bustling event drawing hundreds to Montpelier's scenic Oregon Trail Center, this year's show faced a setback as a rainstorm dampened early attendance.

Furthermore, a highway accident near Montpelier disrupted travel for some participants.

Nevertheless, the community spirit prevailed and by afternoon the sun emerged to reveal 41 gleaming vehicles that had weathered the storm.

"We were pleased with the turnout, considering the rain," said Jim Griglack, president of the Rotary Club of Montpelier, the show's sponsor. "Despite the challenges, the vehicles on display were outstanding and attendees seemed to enjoy themselves."

Highlighting the event were three prestigious awards: the Sponsors’ Choice, awarded to Glenn and Gayle Hyde’s meticulously restored 1969 Plymouth Road Runner from Thayne, Wyoming; the People’s Choice, bestowed upon Jimmy Coy’s vibrant green 1972 Dodge Polara Custom, which traveled from Garland, Utah; and the Local Best of Show, clinched by Ryan Burnett’s immaculate 1936 Chevy pickup from nearby Preston.

The awards underscored the diversity and quality of the entries despite the weather-related hurdles. Participants and attendees alike expressed appreciation for the resilient spirit of the event, cementing its place as a cherished community tradition.
