MONTPELIER — The local RE/MAX real estate agency has a new owner after the previous owner's retirement.

The new owner is Jor'Dan Locher. She moved to the Bear Lake area after marrying her husband. Both her family and her husband's family have experience in the real estate industry.

"His family owned rental homes in the valley," Locher said. "My dad's side of the family owns a hotel in Lava."

Before coming to RE/MAX, Locher and her husband owned a property management company together. Her father-in-law was also an agent at RE/MAX for a time.

"From there, real estate was always in the cards," she said.

Locher got her real estate license four years ago and started working at RE/MAX. She became friends with the previous owner and all the agents who work there.

"I did really good off the bat," Locher said. "We have a good group of ladies."

A year ago, the previous owner decided she wanted to retire. She reached out to Locher and asked if she would be willing to buy her out. Locher agreed and they started the process of Locher taking over the business.

"That started the process of me getting my broker's license," Locher said. "I just bought her out in May."

In the months since, Locher has found that running a real estate business can be stressful and demanding, especially when her husband is still doing his work with their property management company.

"It's a lot of responsibility," she said.

Locher said she looks forward to the opportunity to serve the community.

"We live in a small community, so I'm honored to be able to carry RE/MAX's legacy and offer good, reliable services," she said.

The best part about owning RE/MAX is the opportunity to connect with all the clients and help them find a home that's right for them.

"I love getting to meet the different people and (hearing) their stories and helping them find their perfect place," Locher said. "It does bring you joy to help people."

RE/MAX was originally opened in Garden City, Utah. It was there for two years before the office was relocated to Montpelier. The company has been in Montpelier for the last 16 years.

The office is located at 281 N. Fourth St. in Montpelier.
