This is the place to find things to do, ways to contribute, services available and “the rest of the story” about events that have already happened in Bingham County.

    Announcements:

    • The 20th year reunion of Idaho National Guardsmen in the OIF III deployment is Aug. 9-11 in the Boise area. For more information check idngmwr.com/20yroif . Thank you to all who have served.

    Happenings:

    • The Greater Blackfoot Chamber of Commerce is hosting a golf tournament on Tuesday at the Blackfoot Golf Course. There are 10 teams who will be competing.

    • Blackfoot’s Music in the Park will feature Mountain Strings on Wednesday. The bluegrass-country sound will start at 6:30 p.m. at Courthouse Square Park.

    • The 59th annual Shoshone-Bannock Indian Festival will start on Wednesday with activities through Sunday in Fort Hall. Friday is the Family Fun Night at Fort Hall Park, sponsored by Shoshone-Bannock Tribal Library and the Boys and Girls Club. Activities start at 5 p.m. with a trash pick-up, then beach volleyball, s’mores, and a movie on the HRDC lawn. Bring blankets or a lawn chair for movie-watching comfort.

    • The Bingham County Senior Center is holding a yard sale on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at 20 E. Pacific St.

    • The Blackfoot Farmer’s Market is every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1800 E. Airport Road until the end of October.

    • The first of the Blackfoot School District #55’s new school year orientations is on Aug. 12 with an open house at Mountain View Middle School. Eighth graders are from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and seventh graders are after lunch from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    Services:

    • Blackfoot Community Pantry & Outreach distributes food boxes every Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 245 W. Sexton St. Bring identification the first time and remember your box each time after that!

    Service opportunity:

    • Firefighter Dave Jackson, who was seriously injured about a month ago while fighting a structure fire, is healing, thankfully. However, his medical bills are mounting while he has had to curtain his work to fully recover. The Blackfoot Firefighters IAFF Local 4454 is raising funds to help the family in this difficult time. Want to help? Zions Bank accepts donations either in person or by mail (1350 Parkway Drive #1, Blackfoot, 83221) or you can donate at City Hall.

And now for the rest of a previous story: The Blackfoot Public Library has received a $5,000 grant toward its plan to “Bring Arthur Home.” That leaves about $20,000 left to raise before the bronze statue of a young boy named "Arthur" can greet library and Town Hall visitors. The library is accepting cash donations or debit and credit card donations by calling 208-785-8628 and checks that are sent to PO Box 610, Blackfoot, Idaho 83221.

If you have items that could be mentioned — contact me at jannmmneish@gmail.com by Sunday night.

Until next week – have an adventure!
