Summer is still making its presence known throughout Southeast Idaho, but the first indications that fall is coming are starting to appear.

Fall camp is already underway for the Idaho State football team in preparation for its season opener at Oregon State on Aug. 31. And Saturday came the release of the men’s basketball team’s nonconference schedule under head coach Ryan Looney.

Looney’s Bengals will open the season with a pair of exhibition games starting on October 25 when they host Providence College from Montreal, Canada. Then they’ll play Montana Western on October 29.

The regular season opens at Arizona State, a money game on November 5.

It’s one of 11 nonconference games on the schedule with five of them at home.

ISU will play Southern Oregon, Embry-Riddle University (Arizona), Walla Walla College and Utah Valley in Reed Gym. They will also host an unnamed opponent as part of the Summit League-Big Sky Challenge series.

In addition to the Arizona State road game, other nonconference road games are at Southern California, San Diego, Cal-State Fullerton, UCLA and a team from the Summit league.

Big Sky Conference plays begins on the road at Northern Arizona on January 2. It will end against the same club on March 3 before heading back to Boise for the postseason tournament.

All together, the regular season schedule shows 15 road games, 14 home games and no neutral site contests.

The Bengals were 14-20 last year, but became the darlings of the Big Sky Conference Tournament with their surprise semifinal run in Boise last spring.

Rooney basically had to rebuild the club after a number of players transferred out. Of the 14 names on the current roster, only Jaedyn Brown, Isaiah Griffin, A.J. Burgin and Evan Otten were on the team last season. Griffin and Burgin were the only ones who saw any action, too.

Idaho State’s full nonconference schedule is listed down below:
