SODA SPRINGS — Booster clubs are becoming more and more active at schools nationwide.

These volunteer organizations have proven successful at increasing school spirit and participation by providing much needed funds to a variety of programs school-wide.

A group of eager volunteers saw a need at Soda Springs High School last year and recently came together to establish a Cardinals booster club.

They began a membership drive earlier this year and are still looking to build the organization.

The newly organized Soda Springs High School Booster Club is led by Paulette Ericsson, who is diligently working with a number of parents, community members and the school district to fund the extras the school’s programs and facilities so desperately need.

One of the booster club's current projects is to raise money for restrooms that will be built east of the high school to provide bathroom facilities for Cardinals athletic events such as football, track, softball and baseball.

The biggest hurdle the booster club is facing is the challenge of getting more parents and community members involved with the organization.

Anyone can sign up to donate money or time. The club's leadership holds monthly meetings where everyone is welcome to attend and share ideas.

The meeting dates can be found on the Soda Springs Booster Club Facebook page or can be provided via email at SSHSboosterclub150@gmail.com.

The booster club will hold a back-to-school cornhole tournament on Aug. 15 to aid in funding its restroom project. Registration for the tournament will begin at 5:30 p.m. on the Soda Springs High School football field. Entry fees are $50 per team. The tournament will start at 6:30 p.m.

The top three teams will receive cash prizes and there will also be some fun raffles. Food will be available so bring the kids for a fun evening out.

Ericsson said about the booster club, “We are just getting going and it's new to all of us. We have a great group of people that are involved and are always welcoming new people to join in. We are growing and are grateful for the progress we are making.”
