Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 is all set to welcome learners back to school on Wednesday, Aug. 21, for the new school year.

According to a news release from the school district, the theme for the new school year is “Every Day Matters,” emphasizing the importance of regular attendance.

The district said it is committed to fostering an environment where every child gets the support they need so they can feel motivated to attend school every day.

Research has shown that students with regular attendance do better in school. Regular attendance is important for helping learners build strong foundations for learning and social development, the district said.

Learners are encouraged to strive for excellence this school year. The district hopes to have a positive and impactful school year. The district believes that every day counts in building a brighter future.

The news release said the safety of students is the district’s top priority.

When school zones are active, drivers are expected to slow down. They will need to be especially cautious when driving around neighborhoods with schools nearby as there could be children walking to and from school.

Drivers are also required to stop when a school bus activates its lights and stop sign. On a two-lane road, drivers in both directions are required to stop. On a three-lane road, traffic on both sides is required to stop. On a four-lane road, the two lanes in each direction are required to stop.

When students are walking to and from school, drivers are required to stop at pedestrian crossings. They are also expected to reduce their speed when driving in a school zone.

Learners who need to cross a road to get to a bus stop will need to walk 12 feet in front of the bus and wait for the bus driver’s signal before crossing. The signal will be the bus driver pointing at the learners and motioning them in the direction they will need to move, the district said.

All school doors will be locked during the day, including the main entrance. Visitors are required to show valid identification and use the intercom system before being given access to any of the district’s schools. Visitors will also be given a badge to wear during their visit.
