POCATELLO — The Bannock County Veterans Memorial Association is holding its second annual car show at the Veterans Memorial Building at the end of this month.

Miguel Dominic, historian for the Veterans Memorial Association, said all the proceeds from the car show will go toward repairs and maintenance to the building at 300 N. Johnson Ave.

"There's this one and another fundraiser in September," he said. "All this goes toward repairs for the memorial building."

There was a lot of interest in the car show when it was first held last year. There were so many cars at the memorial building that Dominic had to close part of the street to make room for all of them.

"This year, we asked the city if we could get the three parks so we could get more cars," Dominic said, referring to the three spaces of Memorial Park located along West Fremont Street near the memorial building.

Dominic said the cars will be parked at the three segments of Memorial Park and on West Fremont Street, which will be closed between North Johnson and North Grant avenues.

Last year, the association gave out awards at the car show. Last year there were 12 categories, but this year that number has been increased to 15.

"We have best car, best truck, best motorcycle and best import," Dominic said.

The best part about the car show is watching the community come together for the event. In addition to the cars, there will be food, vendors and prizes to make the day more special.

"(I enjoyed) getting to see the local community bring these different cars out," Dominic said.

Dominic encouraged everyone in the community to come out and participate in the car show. Anyone in the community who wants to enter their car is welcome.

"If they have a unique car, they can bring it out," he said. "They can win a trophy, and we'll have food."

Anyone who wishes to enter their car in the car show will need to register. They can do this either in advance or on the day of the event.

"There's a $20 registration fee," Dominic said. "We have a QR code on the flyer or they can register the day of the event."

The car show will be held on Aug. 31 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building.
