MONTPELIER — Steve Allred, president of the Montpelier Community Foundation, is retiring from a 39 year career in banking.

Allred said his career started in Provo, Utah. He has worked for several different banks such as First Security Bank, Wells Fargo and Zions Bank. Most recently, he worked at Zions Bank.

He has held positions such as vice president, bank manager and commercial lender during his banking career.

"I started in 1985," Allred said. "I've been in Montpelier since 1990."

In addition to his work in the financial industry, Allred has served with many different organizations and is a former member of the Montpelier City Council.

"I was on the Bear Lake Hospital Board of Trustees for 15 years," he said. "I also served at the Oregon Trail Center."

Allred said the most rewarding part of his banking career was serving the people. He said in his work he was helping people achieve their financial dreams, whether that meant buying a home or starting a business.

"It was always a service project trying to help people meet those dreams," he said. "Building those relationships was most important to me."

During his retirement, Allred said he plans to do a lot of outdoor activities such as camping, hunting and fishing. He still plans to be actively involved in the local community.

"I will continue to serve as chair for the Idaho Commission on the Arts," he said. "I'll still be president of the Montpelier Community Foundation."

Allred expressed gratitude for the people in the community for all the work they were able to do together and for the relationships that they formed.

"Hopefully my last 34 years working with the Bear Lake Valley has had a positive impact on the community," he said.
