The family of 88-year-old Nancy Hinckley is raising money for damages after two large trees fell on her home August 22 in Burton during a microburst.

Corey Hinckley, Nancy’s son, said she is doing remarkably well considering the circumstances.

When two 80-foot cottonwood trees fell on the home, Nancy and Corey’s brother were inside. The trees fell on the kitchen and the middle of the house.

“My brother was in the living room. He was able to get out. And then my neighbor came over and helped him get my mom out of her room,” Corey said.

At this point, the family is considering the house a total loss.

The approximate cost for the tree removal is $10,000. The family has the goal of raising $3,000 to $4,000 since insurance will only cover 60%.

“We’re trying to help her raise money to get the rest of it done,” Corey said.

The family is accepting donations through Venmo. They have raised about $500 so far.

To donate, Venmo Michelle Hinckley at Michelle-Hinckley-2.
