MONTPELIER — A local mother-daughter duo have come together to open a new thrift shop that's sure to have something to interest everyone in the community.

Kylee Skinner, who owns the shop with her mother, Kellie Wilson, said the name of the shop is Second Time Around Thrifting. Before they had the idea to open, they worked for another thrift shop in town.

"That ended up going under," she said. "The thrift store was fabulous for our community. We hated to see it disappear so we decided to open up our own."

Skinner and her mother reached out to Chad Duncan, who owns the building that the shop is located in. They asked him if a thrift shop was something he would be interested in.

"He loved the idea, so he was willing to rent us the building," she said. "He has been helping us do some remodeling."

Second Time Around Thrifting offers several different types of products. They have anything from clothes, furniture, kitchen items, baby items and kid's toys.

"We have pretty much anything and everything," Skinner said.

Skinner said one reason she and her mother opened the thrift shop was to help people in the community get the things they need at a more affordable price, especially with the current state of the economy.

"It has been amazing to have affordable items and things that we can repurpose, which gets rid of waste," she said.

The community of Montpelier has shown interest in Second Time Around Thrifting so far. Several members have come forward and helped get the shop ready.

"We've had a lot of people offer assistance whether it be donating or setting up or cleaning and scrubbing," Skinner said.

Skinner expressed gratitude for everyone who helped them get the shop set up for their support. She and her mother look forward to serving the community in Montpelier.

"Thank you to those who helped us so we can help them," she said.

Skinner said they hope to have the store open sometime in September. They plan to have a grand opening and ribbon cutting at some point.

"We're hoping to get that set up with the Chamber of Commerce," she said.

Second Time Around Thrifting is located at 1046 Washington St. in Montpelier. More information will be made available as the shop opens.
