    Century’s day will eventually come.

    But Friday night wasn’t it.

The Diamondbacks endured yet another double-digit loss. This time at the hands of Burley 33-0 at Highland High School.

They’ve now dropped 11 consecutive games going all the way back to the 2022 season. All but one of those have come by double digits. This continues the longest losing streak in program history.

Century’s (0-2) last win was at home against Preston (33-13) on Oct. 7, 2022.

    No other stats were reported.

    NORTH GEM 52, CASTLEFORD 6

North Gem’s goal was to run the football this season.

If Friday’s season opener was any indication, the Cowboys shouldn’t have any problem reaching it.

They racked up 375 yards of their 397 yards of total offense on the ground in a 52-6 rout of Castleford at home.

Craig Yost and Rusty Hatch were responsible for most of that. They combined for 355 yards and seven touchdowns just by themselves. Yost, who was named one of the top running backs in Idaho before the season, led the way with 206 yards and four touchdowns on just 17 carries.

Hatch, the quarterback, added another 149 yards and three touchdowns himself. He completed one pass for 22 yards, as well.

Hyrum Barnes anchored the defensive effort with three tackles-for-loss and a fumble recovery. The six points were the fewest allowed to a varsity team in three years. The 48-point margin of victory is also the biggest at home in three years.

North Gem (1-0) has now won three of its last four season openers. It will now hit the road for the first time against Shoshone. The Cowboys will be seeking their first 2-0 start since 2010.

    ROCKLAND 60, CAMAS COUNTY 14

The Mushers ended the Bulldogs’ season a year ago.

But on Friday they got a measure of revenge over the reigning state runners-up by making them look like anything but.

Isaac Held made sure of it by racking up 179 yards of total offense, including 106 and a score on the ground. He also threw for three touchdown passes. All three of them went to Aidan Radford, who finished with 70 receiving yards, as well.

Zackary Permann went tallied more than 100 all-purpose yards, too. He hauled in five passes for 48 yards and a pair of touchdowns while adding another 74 and a score on the ground. Permann was also great on defense with 13 tackles and an interception.

And rounding it all out was Xavier Parrish. He, too, recorded a hat trick to go along with 85 rushing yards.

    MALAD 6, LYMAN (WY.) 0

The Dragons (1-0) won back-to-back season openers for the first time in a decade Friday at home.

It was also their first time posting a shutout in two years.

Malad still won despite producing just 99 yards of total offense. It was outgained by 40 yards on the night.

    No other stats were reported.

    ABERDEEN 20, AMERICAN FALLS 18

Lupe Ortiz found Ronnie Serna for a 15-yard touchdown pass with 50 seconds remaining, as the Tigers (1-0) pulled out a thrilling victory in their season opener on the road Friday.

Zak Grigg ran for more than 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Kahlen Hernandez hauled in a 78-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter for the Beavers (1-1) in the loss.

    BLACKFOOT 34, PRESTON 28

The Josh Stewart era got off to a good start.

The Broncos (1-0) snapped a 10-game losing streak, which dated back to the 2022 season with a win at home Friday night.

Carter Perry completed 26-of-38 passes for 316 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions for the Indians (0-2) in the loss. Cruz Harris and Jake Schumann both nearly went for 100 yards receiving. Schumann had six catches for 99 yards and Harris eight for 92.

    WEST SIDE 33, FIRTH 19

Crew Sage piled up 194 yards of total offense, including 159 rushing, and three touchdowns, as the top-ranked and defending state champion Pirates (2-0) rallied back from an early 13-0 deficit in their home opener Friday night.

Younger brother Drake Sage and Trayce Stone accounted for the other two touchdowns in the win for West Side.

MARSH VALLEY 41, SOUTH FREMONT 13

Bo Larsen chalked up 201 yards of total offense and three touchdowns, as the Eagles (1-0) won a season opener for the first time in four years Friday night at home.

The senior tailback ran for 135 yards and a pair of scores with another 66 and a touchdown receiving.

Cooper Bowman added 108 yards and two touchdowns through the air.

NORTH FREMONT 16, BEAR LAKE 0

The Bears (0-2) were held to under a 100 yards of total offense in a loss Friday night on the road.

It was also their first time being shut out in four years.

    No other stats were reported.

    RAFT RIVER 56, GRACE 42

The third-ranked Grizzlies (1-1) were upset on the road Friday night.

    No other stats were reported.

    SUGAR-SALEM 41, SNAKE RIVER 6

The Panthers (0-2) scored the game’s first touchdown on 5-yard pass from Bryden Mortensen to Landon Williams.

But that was about it for Snake River in a lopsided loss to the reigning Class 3A state champions in its home opener Friday night.

Mortensen threw for 122 yards in the loss.

    RIRIE 50, SODA SPRINGS 6

The Cardinals (0-2) have now dropped 10 consecutive games going back to end of the 2022 season with a loss at home Friday night.

    No other stats were reported.

    POCATELLO 29, SKYVIEW 23

Hunter May threw a 50-yard bomb to Tavin Williams with three minutes and seven seconds remaining, as the Thunder (1-0) erased a nine-point deficit in the final six minutes in the season opener Thursday on the road.

Pocatello was down 23-14 before May, the lone returning starter on offense, found Cody Kons for a 7-yard strike with 5:41 remaining. It was Kons’ second touchdown of the night. He hauled in a 13-yard pass at the midway point of the second quarter to tie the game at 7-7.

A quick three-and-out by the defense then set the stage for the Thunder’s late-game heroics. But Skyview still had one last crack at it.

Arden Martinez quickly put a stop to any sort of comeback notion, though. He came away with the game-clinching interception with just 42 seconds left on the clock.

May racked up 320 yards of total offense and had a hand in all four touchdowns on the night. He threw for 195 yards and the three touchdowns while running for 125 more and a score on the ground.
