POCATELLO — When the amber tinged leaves begin to drop and a chill wind begins to blow it marks the advent of the beginning of the fall season and the annual Pumpkin Fest in Historic Downtown Pocatello.

Area residents can don their best warm flannels, grab a comfortable jacket and indulge in a simmering hot beverage on Saturday as they participate in a variety of fall focused activities, food and drink specials along with plenty of Pumpkin related projects.

Pumpkin Fest will coincide with events like the Portneuf Valley Farmers Market Harvest Festival and apple pie baking contest, which saw over 20 pies submitted last year. This iteration is sure to be even better, with around 30 pies this year to ogle and observe. The Pumpkin Fest celebration kicks off at 9 a.m. and will last until 2 p.m. Saturday.

“We have the second annual pumpkin fest vendor market that will be open and it will be located on the corner of North Main Street and West Lander Street in that little parking lot,” said Stephanie Palagi, CEO of Historic Downtown Pocatello. “There will be 50-plus vendors there with fall items, drink specials and food specials. It’s a great collection of vendors that have been organized by The W Group’s Nikki Waliser.”

Palagi continued, “We’ll have a guess the pumpkin weight contest by Station Square that’ll be set up where kids can take a photo and guess how much these three big pumpkins weigh collectively. There’ll be selfie stations at locations throughout downtown with painted pumpkins, where people can also take selfies with their families and friends while they’re enjoying the activities.”

During the event, eccentric downtown mainstay Enchantments will have tiny pumpkins hidden throughout their store that children and young adults can turn in for crystals. Pocatello Pet Lodge will be celebrating their 16th anniversary with 16 percent off all their retail items with no exclusions or limits. Purpose Tea will be showcasing an eggnog latte drink special to ready customers for the upcoming holiday season.

Valentine Bridal will be holding a fall special where any bride who buys their gown on Oct. 5 will receive 10 percent off their purchase and be gifted a seasonal fall candle.

“The retail antique shops of downtown are going to be hosting an autumn antique affair,” Palagi said. “The participating shops are Kandas and Company, Cherub Capers Creations, Reflections, Wysteriasage & The Vintage Menagerie, Vain and Vintage and the Elwen Cottage. You’ll pick up a punch card at your first stop, you’ll make all six stops and your little punch card will be entered into win a gift basket worth over $100.”

Beginning with First Friday Art Walk and the Metaphysical Market on Friday and proceeding with Pumpkin Fest on Saturday, the harvest festival and the first evening of the Haunted History Tour, there will be a full flourishing of fall fun for friends and family this October.

“The weather’s going to be beautiful, it’s an awesome opportunity to come down and experience fall downtown,” Palagi said. “Shop and stroll your way through the entire downtown area and really enjoy a beautiful Saturday with weather we typically don’t have this time of year.”
