Three local firefighters injured when brick wall falls on them during house fire

FORT HALL — Three local firefighters were injured while battling a house fire in Fort Hall during the early morning hours on Sunday.

Fort Hall firefighters responded to reports that a home near the intersection of Marshall and Bench roads north of Sheepskin Road was on fire around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release from the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed that flames had engulfed the home and also spread and ignited nearby grasses, the Tribes said.

While the firefighters were checking hot spots in the house fire, a brick wall of the home fell and caused injuries to three firefighters that were not life-threatening, according to the Tribes.

All three firefighters were treated at a local hospital and released.

Firefighters remained on scene from 4:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The house, which was abandoned at the time of the blaze, is considered a total loss. The grass fire burned less than one acre before being extinguished.

According to Fire Chief Eric King, the fire is suspicious in nature and is being investigated by the Fort Hall Police Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

No other injuries were reported as a result of the blaze, the Tribes said.
